What Survives the Fall

5:33Written for the albumEntropy’s Heir

This song is about what remains after everything familiar falls apart. Systems, status, certainty, identity, and the things people thought would last forever. It’s about choosing not to rebuild the same broken world, but to carry forward the lessons, truth, resilience, and humanity that survived the collapse.

When the towers lose their shadows
And the roads forget their names
When the noise has burned to silence
And there’s no one left to blame

We built our walls from borrowed stone
And called the cracks a crown
We swore the ground was ours to own
Right up until it gave out
Every promise carved in iron
Every flag we raised too high
Turned to fragments in the distance
Underneath a colorless sky

When there’s nothing left to stand on
Nothing left to prove
Do we vanish with the ruins
Or become what makes it through?

What survives the fall
When the monuments are gone?
When the names we thought would last forever
Disappear before the dawn?
Not the power, not the walls
Not the hands that held it all
Only what we carried through the fire
What survives the fall

There are footprints in the wreckage
There are stories in the dust
There are choices made in darkness
When there’s no reward for us
Every scar becomes a record
Every breath becomes a vow
Not to rebuild what broke beneath us
But to build what matters now

When the weight of what we’ve lost
Is more than we can move
We can lie beside the ruins
Or become what makes it through

What survives the fall
When the monuments are gone?
When the names we thought would last forever
Disappear before the dawn?
Not the power, not the walls
Not the hands that held it all
Only what we carried through the fire
What survives the fall

Let the skyline disappear
Let the silence settle in
Let the truth cut through the wreckage
Let the reckoning begin
We are more than what collapsed
More than everything we lost
We are every step still moving
No matter what it costs

What survives the fall
When there’s nothing left above?
When the ground beneath our certainty
Has finally given up?
Not the titles, not the thrones
Not the things we thought we owned
Only every truth we chose to carry
When we stood alone

What survives the fall
Is the will to face it all
To walk beyond the edge of what was broken
And refuse to let it call
Not untouched and not unscarred
But still moving through the dark
We are what remains when everything is gone
We survive the fall

When the towers lose their shadows
And the roads forget their names
We will leave the ruins behind us
But we won’t leave here the same
